| Today we spent a little time in Portland at the Powell’s bookstore (totally awesome) and then my dad got a call from work saying that he had to go to a meeting in San Jose tomorrow. It really bites. I mean, he doesn't get all that much vacation time and he gave them PLENTY of notice about the fact that he's taking this trip, so how exactly can they insist that he make a business detour? ARGh. So we decided to drive to the coast, then drive back and leave him in Portland (from where he’ll fly to San Jose tomorrow morning) and then the rest of us are headed for Eugene tonight. (We’re in the car right now, actually, I’m typing this up and then I’ll post it when we get to the hotel.) Like every other natural place we’ve been on this trip, the Oregon coast was exquisite. We hiked along the cliff to a beach with sand so packed that I barely left footprints. The tidal pools were really cool and there were sea anemones and purple and orange sea stars and LOTS of bivalves. Then we hitched a lift with some surfers who took us back to our rental car and drove back to Portland to drop off my dad before heading to Eugene (where we are now as I’m finishing this). I’m really exhausted and my sister and mom are getting irritated with my internet use right now. Highlight of the day: My dad teaching me how to waltz in the hotel parking lot. (It was kind of a disaster; I really have to learn how to dance one of these days.) | ||||||||
